My ABC's of Sketching series is just about finished, now. I've run through all the letters, but I still have a 'Closing' or 'End' page to put together. It probably won't be super fancy, but I hope to work on it some tomorrow. The reason for the last page is because it turned out that each section of paper in my sketch book has just enough pages for each letter of the alphabet plus an Opening and Closing page to round it all out. So... for neatness' sake, there will be a last page. :)

It's been a fun project. Some days I really Really did not feel like drawing and I admittedly didn't draw every single day so the project lasted longer than just 29 days. I don't think that was a tremendously bad thing, though... I still got what I needed out of the project and I'm actively working on creative endeavors more. I want to keep up with a similar project, though. It's been good having something relatively consistent for me to work on.

I have been given a few different ideas of where to go from here... one was that I now run through a series of Numbers for each day. Another involves using Ink instead of just Graphite for my sketches which would certainly challenge me to work with perceived mistakes and try new methods of shading. A third option uses a group here on dA that gives 2 week long 'assignments' that you work on throughout that time period.

As I've been considering all these options, I think that I'm going to go with Secret Option D to start with... I have a tattoo design that a friend had asked me to draw up quite a while ago (far longer than I should have let it get, honestly). So, I will give myself two weeks starting on Monday, May 20th. This means that by Monday, June 3rd... I should have a design ready for her. I don't expect it to be completely Finished by that time, but it should at the very least be a solid working design. I can get some feedback from her at that point and go from there.

After I finish her design, I have another friend with a tattoo design that they'd like to see. So then I can work on his (he asked far more recently, but I didn't want to start until I finished the first one that was asked of me).

So! That's my plan at this point in time... my hope is that posting it here will help keep me accountable. I'll check with her about whether she minds if I post WIP's of the design or not... so if you don't see a lot of 'new' work from me during this, that may be why.

I've been dreaming up and creating art ever since I can remember. Admittedly, there have been large swaths of time where my focus simply wasn't on the creative process, but life does have a habit of spinning things around. Right now, I'm very happily making my art my focus and priority. I have wonderful support and I'm very excited to be (finally) joining deviantART since I've eyed it on and off for a number of years.

I've tried digital media and somehow the process just feels very disconnected to me. I adore seeing other's digital work, but it's not a medium that I prefer to work in. I'd much rather have my pencil to the paper and work like that. I love colored pencils and the richness they can evoke and I love straight graphite, as well.

Drawing is my strong suit while I would consider painting to be one of my weaker mediums. I recently acquired some oil paints to try my hand at them, though. Mostly, I love exploring and trying new things--whether it's a new medium, subject matter, or even style.
